Government Programs / Legislation

Manitoba's 'Aging in Place' Strategy - For Manitoban Seniors who do not want to consider relocation to a retirement or long-term care home, there are a few options that may be available to you provided that your care needs do not exceed the services that are available. With the goal of allowing seniors the opportunity to remain in their own community to 'age in place', Manitoba's provincial government has created options to support this objective.

Regional Health Authorities in Manitoba - Manitoba Health (a part of the provincial government) oversees and funds an array of health related services and programs for citizens of Manitoba. The services are delivered by the 11 Regional Health Authorities (RHA). Each RHA takes the lead in determining goals and health care needs for the communities it manages. They are governed by The Regional Health Authorities Act (1997).

Seniors & Healthy Aging Secretariat - The Seniors and Healthy Aging Secretariat acts as a central point of contact for seniors, their family members and organizations. Staff also work to ensure government policies, programs and legislation reflect the needs of seniors. ,

Health Care Directives in Manitoba - A Health Care Directive allows individuals to indicate their medical wishes should they become unable to do so in the future and allows someone else, whom they deem, to make medical decisions on their behalf should they become unable to make those decisions for themselves.
